Notes for Anna Welsch
Between April 2, 1945 and March 1, 1948, 833 people from Filipowa died of starvation or disease, mainly in the two death camps of Gakowa and Kruschiwl. Four villagers fell victim to begging: Theresia Hönich (born 1921), Anna Welsch (born 1922), Anna Schmidt (born 1913) and Josef Leicht (born 1893). They were caught by the guards when they tried to return to the camp with the food they had begged for. They were thrown into the notorious cellar and tortured to such an extent that they died shortly after being released from the cellar.
